Amazon Prepares Drone Delivery Launch in Central Massachusetts
Amazon is planning to launch its drone delivery service from a facility in Westborough, Massachusetts. The company aims to deliver packages within a 7.5-mile radius of the Otis Street facility, which includes portions of thirteen cities and towns in Central Massachusetts.
Tareq Wafaie, an Amazon representative, explained that the drone delivery program would allow customers to receive their purchases in 30-60 minutes. He stated that over 15 sites are already open across the country, and this year alone, they have delivered more than hundreds of thousands of packages.
Wafaie emphasized the importance of community engagement and noted that Amazon has had several meetings with the town's Select Board and Planning Board to discuss the proposal. The company hopes to obtain all necessary approvals by the end of 2026 and begin operations shortly after.
