Amazon Prepares Massive Expansion of Same-Day Delivery Network
Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is considering a massive expansion of its same-day delivery network to counter Walmart Inc.'s (NASDAQ: WMT) logistical advantage in the US market.
The project, known as Project Mercury, aims to densify Amazon's fulfillment infrastructure by increasing the number of same-day facilities from 85 today to over 1,000 by 2031.
According to Bank of America analyst Justin Post, Amazon is evaluating an expansion of its Sub Same-Day fulfillment network at a cost of $6.8 billion over three years, which could generate $7.1 billion in economic value over 10 years.
