Amazon Prime Air Drone Delivery Expansion to Reach 500 US Cities
Amazon has announced plans to expand its Prime Air drone delivery service to nearly 500 US cities and towns by the end of 2026. This represents a roughly sixfold increase from the current 11 locations across seven states, covering around 175 square miles each.
The e-commerce giant has already completed hundreds of thousands of drone deliveries this year, with some packages reaching customers in as little as 30 minutes. The service can carry packages weighing up to five pounds, which Amazon says covers more than 60% of its most commonly purchased products.
Eligible items for drone delivery include groceries, medications, and electronics. Pricing is designed to encourage adoption, with Prime members paying nothing for drone delivery on orders of at least $50, while smaller Prime orders cost $2.99. Non-Prime customers pay $4.99.
