Amazon Prime Video Ad Revenue Surges 26% as Live Sports Inventory Sells Out
Amazon's Prime Video saw significant growth in August, with ad revenue increasing by 26% year-over-year. This boost can be attributed to sold-out inventory in live sports, including Thursday Night Football and the WNBA. According to Amazon's latest schedule, there are 19 live sporting events planned for August, with a concentration of eight WNBA games on Thursday nights.
The Prime Video Ultra tier, launched in April at $4.99 per month, offers ad-free streaming along with other perks like 4K and Dolby Atmos audio. This tier is priced higher than the original add-on, which was replaced by Amazon. The advertising revenue for the second quarter reached $19.8 billion, a significant increase from last year.
Amazon's focus on live sports has contributed to this growth, with sold-out inventory in key events like Thursday Night Football and the WNBA. This strategy is likely to continue, as Amazon aims to capitalize on the popularity of live sports streaming.
