Amazon Prime Video Boosts UK Content Spend Amid Search for Original Voices
Amazon Prime Video's UK content spend is set to increase significantly, according to Nicole Clemens, head of international originals. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival on August 27, Clemens said the streamer would be ramping up its investment in both scripted and unscripted content.
The decision-making process for Amazon Prime Video's UK budget now sits with Clemens, who oversees the development and production of films and series across more than 20 territories worldwide. She emphasized that the company is open to ideas from writers and producers, and will consider projects at any stage of development.
In scripted content, Amazon is looking for 'lean-forward, propulsive, populist literature' with a sense of originality and authorship. Oliver Jones, senior commissioner for unscripted, echoed this sentiment, saying the team wants to support commercial shows that also have a unique edge.
