Amazon Prime Video Enters Short-Form News Market
Amazon Prime Video is expanding its news coverage to include short-form clips on various topics, including local and national stories. These clips will be available in the News destination within the Prime Video app in Trending Topics and Local News carousels. The move aims to capture Gen Z's attention, which often consumes news on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
The short-form content will initially be available on TVs and other living room devices but will soon roll out to the web and Prime Video's mobile apps. This addition joins Amazon's existing local, national, and world news coverage from major providers, which is available to everyone in the U.S., regardless of their Prime subscription status.
The move reflects an industrywide effort to meet viewers where they are, with other streamers like Peacock, HBO Max, Netflix, and Disney+ already adding support for short-form clips. Amazon's decision to incorporate short-form video into Prime Video is likely a response to the growing trend of younger audiences seeking news in bite-sized chunks that 'feel organic' rather than over-produced.
