Amazon Refreshes Kindle Lineup With Flush Screens and Affordable Prices
Amazon has revamped its Kindle e-reader lineup to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Kindle. The new devices feature unibody designs in plastic and aluminum, with bezels that are flush with the e-paper displays.
The most affordable model is the basic Kindle, which starts at $149.99. It comes in Ube and Graphite colors and features a 6-inch e-paper screen. The device is now lighter than its predecessor, weighing 140g compared to 158g.
The premium version of the basic Kindle is made with aluminum and costs $189.99. This model has 32GB of storage, twice the amount as the plastic version. It's available in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green colors.
The Kindle Paperwhite has also been updated, featuring a 7-inch screen and quality-of-life features such as a warm light that shifts the screen from white to amber tones. The new model gets the same flush display, a sleeker molded plastic design, and a relocated power button. It's available in Graphite and Seaglass Green colors.
The Kindle Colorsoft is another model that has been updated with the new design. It features an aluminum body and costs $289.99. The Signature Edition of this device comes with double the storage (32GB instead of 16GB), an aluminum body, and extra features such as an auto-adjusting front light.
Amazon is also releasing a Bluetooth page-turning remote called the Kindle Click, which supports Kindles from 2024 or later. The Page-Turn Cover accessory is another option for consumers who want physical buttons on their e-readers.
