Amazon Rehires Former Employees for AI and Cloud Roles
Amazon has been contacting former employees, including those who were laid off, to fill open positions in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cloud computing. According to Business Insider, emails obtained by the publication show that Amazon recruiters are reaching out to former employees about new roles.
The outreach includes those who worked on AI-related projects or had experience in ML and cloud computing. A recruiter for Amazon's AI agent organization approached former AI and ML employees about new opportunities, calling it 'Swami's Boomerang Reengagement Initiative.'
AWS Finance recruiter also offered a shorter interview process to a former employee that could lead to an offer, asking whether Amazon's return-to-office policy was a reason for leaving. However, the report did not identify the former employee as someone who had been laid off.
Amazon spokesperson Haley Silva confirmed that rehiring former employees is a longstanding practice across the company and not limited to AI or cloud roles. People who were laid off can be considered for openings, she said.
