Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is set to release a two-part series titled "MELANIA, The Series" on Prime Video starting November 20. The streaming platform spent $75 million on a previous documentary about Melania Trump, which earned around $16 million. The new series promises "never-before-told stories," including her early days after the 47th Presidential Inauguration.
The first episode, "Family & Trust," explores her priorities before returning to the White House, while the second, "Pride & Honor," focuses on her mission. Prime Video released a trailer for the series on Friday, highlighting these themes.
The series follows Amazon’s "Melania" documentary, which covered the 20 days before President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Melania Trump served as an executive producer for the film. Amazon spent $75 million to acquire and market the documentary, which opened at an estimated $7 million, surpassing forecasts of $2 million to $5 million.
Political scrutiny has arisen over alleged ties between Amazon and the Trump administration. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have called for investigations into whether the film was part of a "pay-to-play scheme." Amazon Executive Chair Jeff Bezos denied any involvement in the film’s acquisition, stating, "Amazon’s a big company and makes a lot of decisions. But no, this idea that somehow that is a way of buying influence, it’s just not. It’s just not correct."
