The CPSC issued a warning about fake and counterfeit squishy toys, including those shaped like dumplings, other foods, and animals. The agency says some may not meet federal safety requirements and may contain harmful chemicals.

Amazon has proactively removed some squishy toys from its store following reported safety concerns, including one dumpling squishy that was purchased in June but never notified to the customer.

Consumer Reports analyzed reports to the CPSC's SaferProducts.gov database and identified 33 incidents between January 2025 and July 2026 involving chemical burns, skin irritation or strong odors. Some consumers reported symptoms including nausea, headaches, watery eyes or sore throats.
