Amazon Restructures Film and TV Division with Netflix Execs
Amazon has overhauled its film and TV business affairs division, shifting to a genre-based model and bringing on three key executives from Netflix. Diana Bernstein, Chris Carter, and Matt Rea, each with over a decade of experience at Netflix, will join Amazon in various leadership roles. Bernstein will head the Drama division, Carter will lead MGM and YA, and Rea will oversee World-Building and Comedy.
The changes come as part of a broader restructuring that includes the departure of Dan Scharf, former Head of Global Business Operations at Amazon MGM Studios. The company has replaced its centralized studios BA team with three teams focused on TV, film, and international originals. Mandy Schaffer, who joined Amazon in May from Netflix, will lead the Global TV business affairs division.
Other notable moves include Dan Matusov becoming Head of BA, Animation, Julia Shapiro heading BA, IP, and Ryan Singer continuing as Head of BA, Nonfiction. Megan Shapiro will oversee global TV deal-making with third-party studios, now referred to as Originals Studio Partnerships. The genre-based model aims to align business affairs leadership directly with creative teams, ensuring streamlined deal-making and talent partnerships.
