Amazon Reverses Android Sideloading Ban on Fire TV Devices

Amazon has announced that it will resume allowing Android app sideloading on its Fire TV devices, but with some caveats. This move comes as a response to user demands and competition from other streaming platforms.

Sideloading allows users to install apps outside of the Amazon Appstore, giving them more freedom in choosing what they watch or play on their devices. However, this feature was previously disabled due to security concerns and licensing issues.

Now, users will be able to sideload Android apps again, but only if they have a device running Fire OS 8.2.9.1 or later. The company has also made it clear that any apps installed through sideloading will not be eligible for Amazon's Alexa voice control feature.
