Amazon Secures First Standalone Battery Storage Tolling Deal in Australia
Amazon has made significant strides in the realm of renewable energy by signing its first standalone battery storage tolling agreement in Australia. This deal marks a new milestone for the company, which has been actively investing in clean energy projects across the Asia Pacific region.
The agreement covers the Bairnsdale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Victoria, a 50 MW/200 MWh project that will connect directly to the National Electricity Market. Under this arrangement, Amazon will essentially reserve the right to use the battery, securing access to electricity storage and flexibility without owning the asset.
Anza Power, the developer of the Bairnsdale BESS, stated that this agreement reflects rising demand from major energy buyers for dedicated storage capacity. The company's CEO, Carlo Frigerio, noted that signing Amazon's first standalone battery storage tolling agreement is an important milestone for Anza Power.
