Amazon Seeks Approval for Massive Data Center Project in Virginia

Amazon has submitted a proposal to build four data centers on George Washington University's Virginia Science and Technology Campus, totaling over 800,000 square feet. The proposed development is located in Loudoun County, which is often referred to as the 'data center capital of the world.'

The project comes after Amazon purchased the 122-acre property from GW for $427 million in March. At the time of the sale, Amazon indicated that it intended to use the site for data center development.

District Supervisor Juli Briskman has expressed opposition to the proposal, stating that she will 'fight' it every step of the way and citing concerns about the outdated zoning policies that could allow the project to move forward without a public hearing or review by the Loudoun County Planning Commission.
