Amazon Stock Jumps on AI Demand Optimism and Strong Technicals
Amazon's stock price is rising on Monday, driven by optimism around AI demand and its impact on cloud computing providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS). Citizens analyst Andrew Boone sees the trend as a positive signal for AWS, citing strong revenue growth at OpenAI and Anthropic. According to Boone, when frontier AI developers grow at this pace, it shows that the massive sums poured into building and training these models are paying off once they get put to work answering real queries.
The technical picture also leans bullish, with shares trading 5% above their 50-day moving average of $250.15 and roughly 10.2% above their 200-day average of $238.39. The golden cross from May, when the 50-day average crossed above the 200-day, continues to frame the broader trend as positive.
However, the near-term picture is more neutral, with shares sitting almost exactly on their 20-day moving average of $262.95. Traders are watching $287 as resistance and $226 as support, levels tied to past rallies and pullbacks.
