Amazon's stock price surged after the company delivered impressive Q2 earnings that exceeded Wall Street expectations. Revenue from Amazon Web Services (AWS) jumped 37% year over year to $42.2 billion, its fastest growth rate in nearly 18 quarters.

AWS is holding its position as the largest cloud infrastructure provider with a 30% global market share ahead of Microsoft's Azure and Alphabet's Google Cloud. CEO Andy Jassy noted that AWS is experiencing extraordinary demand, stating it could eventually become a trillion-dollar annual revenue opportunity.

Amazon's advertising business also performed well, continuing to post impressive double-digit growth as advertisers increasingly leverage Amazon's vast ecosystem to reach consumers.
