Amazon Stock Surges 15% Amid Strong Q2 Earnings and $35B OpenAI Investment
Amazon's stock price soared by 15.32% on July 31 after the company reported its quarterly earnings, exceeding expectations in several key areas.
The Amazon Web Services (AWS) division saw a 37% year-over-year growth rate, surpassing $42 billion in revenue and reaching an annualized run rate of $169 billion with a contract backlog of $496 billion.
Amazon's total revenues grew by 20% to $200.6 billion, while its operating income increased by 43% to $27.5 billion, driven in part by a 26% increase in advertising revenue.
The company also announced an additional investment of $35 billion in OpenAI, bringing its total commitment to the AI ecosystem to a multi-billion dollar figure.
