Amazon Sued Over Prime Video's Alleged Trademark Infringement

Brass Jar Productions, the company behind the Drunk Shakespeare theatrical shows, has filed a lawsuit against Amazon for allegedly violating its trademarks. The complaint alleges that an episode of Prime Video's 'Off Campus' series used the 'Drunk Shakespeare' and 'Drunk' trademarks without permission.

The disputed episode, 'The Breakup,' features a scene set at a fictional college 'Drunk Shakespeare' production, with multiple lines of dialogue referencing the trademarked name. Brass Jar claims that this use has caused confusion among consumers and is seeking monetary damages, including up to $2 million per counterfeit mark.

The Drunk Shakespeare shows combine Shakespearean performance with alcohol consumption in an intimate setting, with productions currently running in several cities across the US. The company's attorney notified Amazon of its concerns in a June 3 letter, but the parties were unable to reach a resolution.
