Amazon Surpasses $3 Trillion Mark on Strong AWS Growth
Amazon has joined the exclusive US$3 trillion club after its strongest Amazon Web Services (AWS) growth in more than four years. The company's shares surged to a record high on August 3, driven by a 5% increase in value that pushed its market capitalization above US$3 trillion for the first time.
The milestone marks a significant shift in investor confidence, with Amazon's stock price rising nearly 23% since the beginning of the year. This growth is largely attributed to AWS' strongest revenue growth since 2021, driven by increased spending on cloud infrastructure capable of supporting AI workloads.
Amazon's latest earnings report exceeded analyst expectations, with adjusted earnings per share reaching US$1.97 and revenue hitting US$200.61 billion. The company also increased its projected capital expenditures for the year to US$220 billion, primarily to support AWS data centers, specialized AI chips, and memory infrastructure.
Amazon's emphasis on artificial intelligence investments has distinguished it from other large-cap technology companies. While some peers have faced market pressure after announcing higher spending plans that affected free cash flow, Amazon's strategy has demonstrated clearer returns.
