Amazon Surpasses $3 Trillion Mark, Sets Sights on $5 Trillion By 2029
Amazon has recently become one of the most valuable companies in the world, surpassing $3 trillion in market value. This milestone is largely due to its impressive earnings results and strong growth in its cloud computing platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS). In fact, analysts predict that Amazon could reach a staggering $5 trillion by 2029 if it continues on its current path.
AWS has been the standout performer for Amazon, with revenue growing 37% year over year. This is the fifth consecutive quarter of accelerating revenue growth for the segment, and it's also the highest growth rate in 18 quarters. The company's strength in artificial intelligence services, such as Bedrock and SageMaker, has contributed significantly to this growth.
Amazon's custom silicon, including Trainium chips, is a key factor driving AWS' success. These chips provide better results for customers and enable Amazon to achieve wider operating margins. While some may worry that larger AI workloads could cut into AWS' margin, the company's massive scale and growing demand should ensure that margins continue to improve over time.
In addition to its cloud computing business, Amazon's retail operations are also producing excellent results. The rest of its operations grew revenue by roughly 16% year over year last quarter, with double-digit growth in advertising and improvements in its logistics network contributing to the increase.
