Amazon Suspends Operations with 21 Air After Fatal Boeing 767 Crash

Amazon has suspended operations with 21 Air following a fatal Boeing 767 crash at Miami International Airport on September 6. The incident killed five people on the ground and injured five others.

The plane, operated for Amazon by 21 Air, was a converted 767-300ER freighter that overran the runway during landing. It rolled about 1,300 feet beyond the pavement before striking navigation aids and a van, crossing Northwest 67th Avenue, and hitting an SUV.

Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the company paused operations with 21 Air 'following last weekend's tragic incident' to support the investigation and review surrounding circumstances. The decision is not a regulatory measure by the FAA, as the operating certificate remains in 21 Air's hands.

The NTSB investigation is ongoing and has not yet determined the probable cause of the crash. Agency Chair Jennifer Homendy indicated that the probe will examine procedures, contractual relationships, crew training, FAA oversight, and aircraft systems.
