Amazon Takes $3 Billion Bet on India's Fast-Delivery Boom
Amazon is making its biggest bet yet on India's fast-delivery boom by investing $3 billion to expand its quick commerce business in the country. The e-commerce retailer plans to reach a target of around 1,300 stores by April next year, up from the current 750.
The sector has grown rapidly since 2022, with rivals such as Walmart's Flipkart and domestic giants like Eternal's Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto controlling 77% of the market. Amazon currently has a 6.2% market share but aims to increase its presence in the quick commerce space.
Amazon plans to add new small neighbourhood warehouses to its current Amazon Now service network, where deliveries are shipped quickly. The company also intends to strengthen inventory management software at stores and deploy AI tools for demand prediction and expanding product selection.
