Amazon is negotiating with investors to move thousands of Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips into a special-purpose vehicle, which would then lease them back. This move could potentially shift about $8 billion of expensive AI hardware off its balance sheet.

The deal would allow Amazon to keep using the high-performance chips without having to invest in purchasing them outright. The special-purpose vehicle would own the $8 billion worth of Nvidia chips, and Amazon would lease them for use in its operations.
