Amazon Taps Unconventional Delivery Methods for Speed and Sustainability

Amazon has been experimenting with innovative delivery methods to improve speed and sustainability. One such method involves using Japan's Shinkansen bullet trains, which can travel at speeds of up to 200 mph.

In March, Amazon began using the Tohoku Shinkansen and Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen lines for package transportation between Amazon fulfillment centers in Tokyo and surrounding areas. The company has seen a reduction in transit time and carbon emissions as a result.

The e-commerce giant is also deploying electric cargo bikes in urban environments, such as the U.S. West Coast. These bikes are capable of carrying 240 packages per shift and can reach speeds of up to 12 mph. Amazon plans to operate dozens of routes out of Culver City and Burbank delivery stations.

The company's focus on customer satisfaction has led it to explore unconventional delivery methods, including drone delivery and partnerships with local boat operators in Venice and Monhegan Island. By leveraging various transportation modes, Amazon aims to increase speed, efficiency, and access to remote areas.
