Amazon is eyeing a 384-acre industrial site in Norwich, Connecticut for a major warehouse facility. The proposed project would occupy roughly half of the Occum Industrial Center, located off Interstate 395. According to Norwich Mayor Swarnjit Singh, construction would require about 200 workers, while another 500 positions would be available at the warehouse once operational.

The starting pay for these jobs is estimated to be $23 an hour, with Mayor Singh emphasizing that the positions will be accessible to a broad range of workers. He noted that many industries, such as those in the tech sector, often require specialized skills, but this project would cater to average American people.

The proposal still needs to undergo city approvals and is facing a hurdle in securing funding for the main access road inside the industrial park and redoing the Exit 18 on and off ramps near Route 97. The city has received over $11 million in grants but needs nearly $8 million more to complete this work.
