Amazon to Pay $309.5 Million in Settlement Over Washington State Return Policy Allegations
Amazon has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit over allegations of improper return and refund policies in Washington state. The proposed settlement fund amounts to $309.5 million, which will be used to make payments to eligible customers according to the settlement's distribution plan.
The case concerns customers who may not have received refunds correctly or on time, or who received a refund but were later charged again for returned products. Amazon has denied any wrongdoing and claims it did not violate consumer protection laws.
Eligible customers can be divided into two groups: Subclass A and Subclass B. Members of Subclass A will automatically receive a payment under the settlement, while those in Subclass B must submit a claim form to receive their refund.
The court has scheduled a Final Approval Hearing for March 16, 2027, at 10 am in Seattle, Washington, where it will determine whether to approve the proposed settlement.
