Amazon to Pay Out Millions in Prime Refunds to Eligible Customers
Amazon has agreed to pay out an additional $845 million (£637.71 million) in redress payments to US Prime customers, bringing the total amount of consumer redress to over $2 billion (£1.89 billion). The new payment phase will cover millions of eligible consumers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits during any 12-month period of enrollment and have not previously been issued a payment from the settlement fund.
The revised federal court order governing Amazon's $2.5 billion (£1.89 billion) settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that Amazon's claims administrator begin issuing automatic payments to eligible consumers identified in Amazon's business records by 1 October.
Eligible customers do not need to submit a claim form, respond to a notice or complete other paperwork. Refunds will be sent through PayPal or Venmo, or by mailed cheque, and expire 60 days after their issue date.
