Amazon Unveils Redesigned Kindles with First-Ever Color Scribe
Amazon has revamped its entire Kindle lineup, introducing new eReaders that are easier to carry and more colorful. The highlight of the release is the company's first color Kindle Scribe.
The 11-inch color ePaper display on the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft uses a combination of a filter, an LED light guide, and a new rendering engine to deliver 'soft' colors while preserving details. Amazon promises 'weeks' of battery life.
Both the color and black-and-white Kindle Scribes are slimmer at 5.4mm, lighter at 400g, and reportedly 40% faster thanks to an updated quad-core processor with more memory. They have narrower bezels with consistent lighting, and there's more friction to give that paper-like feel when writing with a new pen.
The standard Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite, and the Kindle Colorsoft also have their own upgrades. The 6-inch base Kindle is billed as Amazon's 'most pocket-sized' eReader yet, while the 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite adds the largest Paperwhite display to date with more contrast and 12 weeks of claimed battery life.
Prices range from $150 for a basic 16GB Kindle to $680 for a 64GB Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. A brand-new Bluetooth remote, the Kindle Click, is also available for $35.
