Amazon Unveils Sweeping Expansion Plan in India Ahead of Festive Season
E-commerce giant Amazon has accelerated its expansion plans in India ahead of the upcoming festive season. As part of this effort, the company has announced the launch of 20 new fulfillment centers and 150 last-mile delivery stations across various cities.
This expansion is a result of Amazon's investment of over ₹2,800 crore to bolster its pan-India operations and infrastructure. The company claims that this will increase its total storage capacity in India by 50% to 64 million cubic feet.
The new facilities will be operated and managed by third-party logistics service providers. Notably, seven of the 20 new fulfillment centers are located in non-metro cities. Furthermore, six sort centers have also been set up in various locations.
In a bid to handle the anticipated surge in consumer demand during the festive period, Amazon had earlier announced the creation of over 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across 400 cities.
