Amazon Van Thief Chased at 100mph Through Residential Streets

A dramatic pursuit unfolded in Greater Manchester when a stolen Amazon van was chased by traffic police at speeds of up to 100mph. The 25-year-old driver, who allegedly stole the vehicle carrying £1,000 worth of parcels, was arrested after crashing into pedestrian barriers and a stopped vehicle in Chorley, Lancashire.

The incident began when Greater Manchester Police received a 999 call at around 18:23 BST on Wednesday to report the van had been stolen. Within 15 minutes, officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it without initiating a pursuit, but the driver sped away.

During the 40-minute chase, the van was driven three times over the speed limit, reaching approximately 100mph through residential streets where families, pedestrians, and other road users were present. A cyclist was injured in the incident, and significant damage was caused to multiple pieces of street furniture.

PC Nat Mannyng from the transport unit at GMP stated: 'This was an extremely dangerous incident which saw a vehicle reaching speeds of 100mph through residential streets where families, pedestrians, and other road users were going about their daily lives.' The driver showed a complete disregard for public safety, putting innocent members of the public at risk of serious harm.
