A man in his mid-20s stole an Amazon delivery van containing £1,000 worth of parcels and led police on a high-speed chase through Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

The theft occurred around 6:23pm on Wednesday, with the driver accelerating away from officers as they attempted to bring the vehicle to a halt.

The pursuit reached speeds of approximately 100mph, spanning three towns across the region before the van crashed into pedestrian barriers and struck a car waiting at traffic lights in Chorley.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but considerable damage was inflicted on multiple items of street furniture along the route.

The driver was apprehended at the crash site and has since been released on bail while investigations continue. He faces charges including motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, and possessing Class A and Class C drugs.
