Amazon Warriors Crush Kingsmen in Dominant CPL Display
The Guyana Amazon Warriors dominated their opponents in this year's Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), crushing the Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets on Friday.
The Amazon Warriors were led by their bowlers, who restricted the visitors to 159 for seven at Providence Stadium. Dwaine Pretorius and Khary Pierre made early inroads into the top order, with Pretorius trapping opener Kirk McKenzie lbw with the final ball of the first over and later dismissing Keacy Carty.
Usman Khan struggled with a laborious 10 off 12 balls before being bowled by Pierre's left-arm spin. Rovman Powell inside-edged the next delivery from spinner Mohammad Nabi onto his stumps, leaving the Kingsmen to slip to 83 for five.
Hassan Khan blasted an unbeaten 62 off 29 balls to give the innings late momentum, but it was not enough to prevent the Amazon Warriors from taking control. Gurbaz and Mavendra Dindyal added 46 runs inside the first five overs, with Gurbaz eventually making a half-century from 35 balls.
