Amazon Web Services Expands in Louisiana with Third Data Center
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to build its third data center in Louisiana, further solidifying the company's commitment to the state. The new facility will be located at Resilient Technology Park in west Shreveport, and follows the construction of two other data centers in Bossier Parish near Benton and Caddo Parish near Blanchard.
The additional investment is expected to create 750 permanent jobs and 2,200 temporary construction jobs. According to Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois, Amazon's decision to expand its presence in the state demonstrates the company's confidence in the local workforce and infrastructure.
Bourgeois noted that AWS has promised to protect natural resources and invest in infrastructure as it constructs the data centers. The facilities will rely on air cooling most of the year, using water for cooling only when temperatures exceed 85 degrees. Amazon also plans to invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure.
The company is working with SWEPCO to fully fund new energy infrastructure. Bourgeois praised AWS's commitment to sustainability and responsible growth, stating that these plans align with Louisiana's broader strategy to support large-scale AI and digital infrastructure investments.
