Amazon Wins Reprieve from Price-Fixing Injunction

Amazon's pricing practices have been under scrutiny by California authorities, who claim that the e-commerce giant pressured rival retailers into raising prices on their products. A judge has tentatively rejected the state's request to halt these alleged practices, citing a lack of evidence that they are still ongoing today.

The California authorities had argued that Amazon leaned on brands such as Levi Strauss, Allergan, and Hanes when Walmart and other competitors offered lower prices. However, the judge noted that the evidence from 2023 may not be relevant to current practices.

A final ruling on an injunction will follow a hearing, but for now, Amazon has been granted some breathing room in this antitrust battle. The broader case remains headed for trial in January, when California will try to show that Amazon's marketplace rules inflate prices across the internet.
