Amazon Workers Rally in NYC as Delivery Protection Act Gains Momentum

A coalition of Amazon workers and labor unions rallied outside New York City Hall to demand passage of the Delivery Protection Act, which would ban Amazon's delivery service partner (DSP) program in the city.

The legislation, reintroduced by Queens councilmember Tiffany Cabán, aims to require companies to directly employ their delivery drivers instead of using third-party subcontractors.

Cabán and other councilmembers Selvena Brooks-Powers and Alexa Avilés attended the rally alongside Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman and Amazon drivers who have supported the Delivery Protection Act since its introduction in September.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced his support for the legislation on Monday, posting a video criticizing Amazon's use of subcontractors and highlighting the benefits of direct employment for workers.

Amazon has argued that passing the bill could prompt it to move delivery operations outside the city, potentially threatening 10 distribution centers and over 10,000 jobs.
