Amazon's $10 Billion Bet on AI Could Pay Off Big Time in Anthropic IPO
Amazon's investment in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence (AI) company, has grown significantly over time. In September 2023, Amazon invested $1.25 billion into Anthropic as part of a broader $4 billion commitment. By March 2025, Anthropic was valued at $61.5 billion and later climbed to $183 billion by September that year.
Amazon's ownership stake in Anthropic is estimated to be around 19.7%, implying a value of about $394 billion if Anthropic were to list at a $2 trillion valuation. This represents roughly 14% of Amazon's total market capitalization, which is currently $2.8 trillion.
A successful listing could add hundreds of dollars in look-through value to an existing Amazon position already benefiting from Anthropic. However, investors should be aware that the exact value of Amazon's stake may not be fully reflected in its current market price.
