Amazon's 2026 Kindles Bring Major Upgrades
The new Amazon Kindle lineup has been released for 2026, and it's a significant upgrade from previous models. The new e-readers feature flatter sides, making them look similar to the iPad Mini, and are available in various colors, including Ube purple, Graphite black, Alpine Sky blue, Seaglass Green, and Fig aluminum. The traditional plastic Kindle now has a flush screen with the bezel, while the Paperwhite and Colorsoft models have their back shell's color on the front bezel.
The new Kindles also come with improved battery life, with the 6-inch Kindle lasting up to 6 weeks on a single charge, the Paperwhite lasting up to 12 weeks, and the Colorsoft lasting up to 8 weeks. The user-replaceable batteries are a major win for consumers and the 'right to repair' crowd.
One of the most significant upgrades is the introduction of page-turning buttons on the Kindle Page-Turn Cover case, which works with the new aluminum Signature Edition versions of the Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft. The case only works with these specific models due to their pogo pins, replacing wireless charging on previous models.
The 2026 Kindles are priced similarly to their predecessors, but individual model prices have increased since their launch. For example, the new 6-inch Kindle costs $190 in its aluminum version, while the Paperwhite and Colorsoft start at $250 and $290 respectively. The price increase is attributed to AI-driven price hikes on memory and storage.
