Amazon's $3 Trillion Record Short-Lived as Bezos Sells Shares
Amazon's record-breaking stock price has been short-lived. The company's market value briefly surpassed $3 trillion on Monday, but by Tuesday it had fallen by over 2%. This decline is largely due to a planned sale of shares by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Bezos filed a Form 144 notice last Friday, which allows him to sell restricted shares. The filing values the shares at $4.07 billion based on Friday's closing price of $271.58 each. This is significantly lower than Monday's record high of $284.02 and the current market value.
The sale is part of a Rule 10b5-1 plan, which allows Bezos to sell shares at predetermined times without breaching insider trading rules. The plan was set up in November 2025, and this is his second-largest sale by dollar amount but smallest by share count.
