Amazon's AI Surge Outpaces Uber's Ride-Hailing Growth
Amazon.com and Uber Technologies have reported steady revenue growth in their quarterly financials. Amazon's sales spiked during the fourth quarter due to the holiday shopping season, a pattern that is worth monitoring as the e-commerce giant expands its artificial intelligence offerings.
In the second quarter of 2026, Amazon Web Services (AWS) division delivered 37% year-over-year sales growth to $42.2 billion, its fastest growth in 18 quarters. This indicates that Amazon's AI solutions are gaining traction and becoming a significant contributor to the company's revenue.
Amazon has also made partnerships with other companies, including Zoox, an autonomous vehicle (AV) startup. The two companies partnered with Uber in a multi-year deal to bring Zoox into Uber's ecosystem, starting with Las Vegas this year and Los Angeles in 2027.
Uber's partnership with Waymo, owned by Alphabet, appears to be ending, as their pilot in Phoenix ended this year with additional cities coming off Uber's app in the future. This may not have a significant impact on sales, given Waymo's limited involvement in Uber's ecosystem.
