Amazon's Block of Muse Seen as Test of Customer Loyalty
Cathie Wood of ARK Invest has weighed in on Amazon's decision to block Meta Platforms' Muse from accessing its site, calling it a 'great test' of customer loyalty and agentic commerce.
According to analyst Nick Grous, Amazon is holding out due to concerns that agents crawling its site would make ads meaningless. The company's advertising business generated $19.8 billion in revenue in Q2 2026, up 26% year over year.
Grous noted that Amazon wants to 'own the customer relationship' rather than let agents crawl its site freely. This stands in contrast to Shopify, which has opened up Shop Pay integration in Muse and allows it to index its shop catalog.
Amazon's decision to block Muse has raised concerns among shareholders, with some wondering if the company will eventually follow suit or explain its reasoning.
