Amazon's Carbon-Free Energy Investments Boost US Economy by Billions
A new economic study estimates that Amazon's investments in carbon-free energy have added $212 million to Mississippi's gross domestic product over three years. The study, developed by Oxford Economics and Amazon, found that these projects supported around 280 jobs annually in the state and generated more than $22 million in tax revenue from 2023 through 2025.
The report also estimated that Amazon's carbon-free energy portfolio contributed nearly $11 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product during the same period and supported nearly 22,000 jobs annually. The company's projects include over 700 solar, wind, nuclear, and battery storage projects in 28 countries.
One of these projects is the Delta Wind farm in Tunica County, which generates enough electricity to power nearly 80,000 homes. Amazon cited the growing demand for electricity from data centers as a key factor driving their investment in carbon-free energy.
