Amazon's Delivery Driver Smart Glasses Snap Photos Almost Constantly

Amazon is equipping its delivery drivers with smart glasses that take photos almost constantly. According to Bloomberg, the cameras will capture several thousand images per shift, which Amazon plans to upload to its AI Wellspring platform for enhanced delivery processing.

The company claims it's only using this data to improve the delivery process and has assured customers that people and license plates in the images will be blurred before human review. However, Amazon has not yet considered allowing customers to opt-out of this feature or view any photos taken of them or their property.

Amazon drivers have previously complained about being surveilled through AI cameras in their vehicles, which sometimes failed to recognize secured seat belts or forced drivers to stop for a break. The company plans to deploy 20,000 more pairs of the smart glasses by the end of 2027 and has already seen them used in over 275,000 deliveries.
