Amazon's Drone Noise Sparks Frustration in Richardson Neighborhood

A Richardson, Texas neighborhood is fed up with the constant drone noise from Amazon's Prime Air facility, which opened in December 2022. Residents claim they've learned to recognize the humming of drones flying overhead and have been protesting outside Amazon's premises. They want the flights to slow down while Amazon addresses their concerns.

Nikki Anderson, a resident who lives in the neighborhood, has spotted one of the drones and describes the constant traffic as 'invasive' and 'intrusive.' Scott Bratcher, another neighbor, is concerned about the noise and how low he says the drones are flying. Both residents have asked Amazon, the city, and the Federal Aviation Administration for help.

The FAA told FOX 4 that Amazon operates under an exemption with specific conditions and limitations, but it's Amazon's responsibility to ensure safe drone operation in U.S. airspace. Amazon has met with the mayor, City Council, and city manager to address concerns and has prioritized noise reduction in designing its drone.
