Amazon's God of War TV Series Recasts Two Lead Actors Amid Criticism

Amazon's Prime Video is revamping its upcoming God of War TV series after losing two lead actors due to injuries and creative decisions. The show was initially set to premiere in 2027, with a two-season order.

The original cast included Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus, but they will be recast following widespread criticism of the first look at the father-son duo online. The decision to drop Hurst due to an injury raised eyebrows, but Amazon is now seeking a new Kratos.

The role of Atreus has also been put up for recasting, with Callum Vinson being replaced. A casting call has gone out for the character, and instead of seeking someone between 9 and 12 years old, Amazon wants an actor between 14 and 17.

This change is not the only shakeup in the show's cast, as Prime Video is also looking for a new Thrud, the young Aesir goddess of strength. The role was previously played by Austin, who lost it to make way for an older actress between 14 and 17.
