Amazon's Growth Slows in Bellevue Amid Broader Tech Industry Decline
Amazon remains Bellevue's largest employer for the fourth consecutive year, accounting for around 10% of the city's workforce. Its total headcount in the city reached 15,700 employees last year, a growth of 1,400 from 2024.
This represents a slower pace than previous years, however. Amazon's employee count increased by 3,300 between 2023 and 2024, but this time around it only added 1,400 new workers.
The company still plans to meet its goal of having 25,000 employees based in Bellevue. An Amazon spokesperson stated that the company is committed to investing in the city and being a good neighbor through various initiatives such as affordable housing, transit, and community partnerships.
Despite the slower growth rate, recent developments suggest that Amazon is still active in Bellevue. The company resumed construction on its office towers in 2022 after pausing it due to remote work arrangements. A temporary park called 'The Meadow' has been created in one of the towers, and development is ongoing for other offices.
