Amazon's Market Cap Surpasses $3 Trillion After 27% Share Price Surge
Amazon's market capitalization has surpassed $3 trillion after its shares jumped 27% in three days, following the company's second-quarter earnings report. The ecommerce giant's stock price rose to a record close on Monday, lifting its market cap to $3.06 trillion.
The move makes Amazon only the fifth company to ever reach this milestone, joining Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Alphabet. It first broke through the $1 trillion mark in February 2020 and reached $2 trillion in June 2024.
AWS sales were a major driver of growth, jumping 37% year-over-year to $42.2 billion. This exceeded expectations for 31% growth and marked the cloud division's fastest expansion in 18 quarters.
Investors rewarded Amazon's increased capital spending forecast from $200 billion to $220 billion, with much of that money going towards data centers, chips, and AI infrastructure. The company expects demand to remain strong enough that it will face constraints into 2028.
