Amazon's New Fire TV Stick 4K Brings Vega OS, Faster Performance
Amazon has launched a new Fire TV Stick 4K that runs on Vega OS, not Android. This marks a significant change in Amazon's hardware lineup, which was previously based on Android.
The new stick features a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, 8GB storage, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and Low Energy, HDR10 and HDR10+, as well as support for HEVC, VP9 and AV1 video. It can stream 4K content at up to 60fps.
One notable omission from the new stick is Dolby Vision and Atmos support, which may be a disappointment for some users. However, Amazon claims that the new stick gets customers to content nearly 20-40% faster than a similarly priced 4K stick from another leading brand.
