Amazon's New Kindles Lighter, Thinner, and More Metal
Amazon has released a revamped Kindle lineup to celebrate its upcoming 20th anniversary in 2027. The new devices include a 6-inch base Kindle, a 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite, and a 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft.
The highlight of the new Kindles is their use of aluminum construction instead of traditional plastic, with Amazon using 80% recycled aluminum. The starting tier is still made of plastic, but customers can upgrade to an all-aluminum model for $40 more.
The base Kindle's screen offers 30% faster page turns than its predecessor and features a 1.2-gram-per-cubic-centimeter density, making it one of the lightest e-readers on the market. The Paperwhite and Colorsoft models are similarly lightweight and retain their waterproof design.
The Signature Editions of both devices offer additional features, including an ambient light sensor, an accelerometer for landscape orientation, and a double-tap gesture to turn pages. They also feature pogo pins that allow charging via Amazon's new $60 dock.
