Amazon’s October Prime Day Kicks Off Early Holiday Shopping Rush
Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, often referred to as October Prime Day, is set to take place on October 6-7. This event serves as a critical dress rehearsal for the upcoming holiday shopping season, offering brands a preview of consumer behavior before Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Amazon has teased deals with discounts of up to 55%, claiming that most products will be at their lowest prices of the year so far.
Competitors are also jumping into the action. Walmart is running its own deals event from October 5-11, while Target’s Circle Deal Days will coincide with Amazon’s event on October 6-7. Adobe forecasts that these combined events will drive $9.9 billion in spending, with peak discounts reaching 19%.
The October Prime Day event, introduced by Amazon in 2022, has significantly reshaped the holiday shopping calendar. By pushing early deals, Amazon is effectively extending the shopping season, which could impact traditional holiday sales strategies.
