Amazon's Prime Air Delivery Center Plan Clears Local Hurdle in Connecticut
Amazon's Prime Air delivery center plan has cleared an early hurdle in North Haven, Connecticut. The proposal, which would bring large-scale drone delivery to the state for the first time, was approved by local planning and zoning officials.
The drones, weighing around 80 pounds, would be capable of carrying packages up to five pounds over a range of about seven miles from Amazon's North Haven operations center. According to Michael Shea, executive director of the Connecticut Airport Authority, the drones would drop packages from roughly 13 feet high.
The proposal is part of Amazon's larger plan to offer drone delivery in almost 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of this year. While it has cleared a local hurdle, it still requires further approval before becoming a reality.
